This might seem like a no-brainer and you’re wondering why an SOP needs to exist. It came to be for two reasons:
- Smoother onboarding for new staff to learn our systems; and
- Reduce the amount of busyness in Slack that should be taken care of in Asana.
Replace Asana with whatever project management software you use, and you get the point. It is imperative that team members don’t get “lazy” about proper project management and not resort to Slack. (A reminder for ourselves as well!)
Mistakes happen when work is managed through Slack. Other seemingly benign issues like DMing creates issues when a team member leaves.
Whatever the nuance, we’ve found it, and that’s why this playbook was created.

Slack and Asana Guidelines
If you aren’t familiar with the term SOP, you’re about to fall in love with these little operational beasts. SOP is short for Standard Operating Procedure. The idea behind an SOP is that you describe the steps to a specific task so that anyone can follow the directions to execute. (As in this is how you stop doing it all yourself and get someone else to do things done as you want it!)
